and trying to run. he was stopped by a private security guard would almost bill a victim. katie marzullo was first on the scene and joins us with that story. katie? >> it happened at this intersection which was closed for two hours this morning because of it. it was a very dangerous crash. the person who caused it may have gotten away if not for an employee at the hilton hotel. at 5:45 a san jose police officer was behind the wheel his patrol car and waiting when, bam, a speeding cadillac hits him. both cars slide into the intersection leaving a pool of broken glass. both the officer and driver are hurt and the driver tries to run. >> got out of the car and attempted to flee. >> the injured officer yelled for the man to stop the he got unexpected help. >> a security guard at the hilton hotel tackled the suspect. >> the fast acting security guard is lucky. he could have been caught in the crash. >> a security officers was standing outside the officer's car chatting with him late rally just stepped back as the officer was ready to leave and stepped on the sidewalk and very fortunate that i

morning fire at a san jose mobile park. it started shortly after 2:00 a.m.. ktvu katie utehs is telling us crews are looking for the man that lived in the burning mobile home. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, brian. i spoke to a neighbor that helped the elderly man jump start his car yesterday. that may be the last time anybody saw this man. let me show you video we took 15 minutes ago as fire investigators take their first look inside the mobile home. its located in casa elle han doctor mobile home park. people started calling 911 shortly after 2:00 this morning as smoke and flames could be seen from the freeway. fire crews responded to a fully engulfed mobile home. now the crews have put the fire out. they are trying to locate the man that lives here. they are in his 70s and don't have a cell phone number to reach him. >> we are not sure about the occupant. >> reporter: the neighbor i spoke with said he helped the man start his car so he could go to work. he also said that the man may have had a daughter living with him but that daughter moved out about a month ago. so again fire

and firefighters still have not located the elderly man who lives in the unit. ktvu's katie utehs is live on the scene with the new information about this mobile park. good morning, katie. >> reporter: good morning, tori. i just got off the phone with san jose fire's public information officer. he says now that it is daylight, the plan to move forward, research this mobile home. as you can see, it's completely gutted. early this morning they got through 80% of the home. they still need to search through the kitchen. they hope that will give them more identification or contact info as they try to find the elderly man who lived here. they do not believe he was home at the time of the fire. let me show you some video and some pictures of the flames and smoke coming from the mobile home at casa mobile home park along monterey in san jose. the smoke could be seen with 101 -- could be seen from 101. the mobile home where the fire started is completely destroyed, as you've seen. they walked through the gutted home and believe the elderly homeowner was not in the unit at the time. they are still

in san jose. katie marzullo, what is the latest? >> c.h.p. says the highway will be closed for another hour with investigators on the freeway. the suspect is not identified only that he is "free." >> southbound interstate 5, empty of traffic and full of investigators. back up to 1:00 o'clock a.m., when c.h.p. officers were pursuing a suspect in stockton. the man was wanted for an attempted homicide in san jose. at some point, his car broke down on interstate 5 and c.h.p. called stockton police for backup. the suspect got out of the car. >> the suspect was yielding a knife and was not complying with orders so a stockton police officer fired the weapon, striking the weapon at least when time. >> the suspect died at the hospital and investigators say he was also wanted on suspicion of domestic violence. >> protocol for multiple answers to investigate when a police officer shoots someone and they take their time. the unseen portion of this investigation is now entering the 10th hour. >> fire investigators are trying to pinpoint the cause of an part building fire in the east bay that sent 5
